She can't get on the internet. It was working fine, then her friend got on, and didn't log off. Now she is having problems.

Tell her to buy more RAM - 128MB is a miserable amount to try an run
windows XP on. IMHO she needs at least 512MB, tell her to go to the
crucial website and let it scan her computer.

You could have told us that before? So she never logged off - she
pulled the power supply - or incorrectly turned off the computer? Or
she went off to bed and the computer crashed?

So the computer is working, but she can't get on the internet, has she
tried to use the control panel to restore to an earlier point? Has
she cleared her browser cache (it would be useful if you said which
browser)?
Has she cleared her temporary internet files? It is likely that if
the browser's cache is full of crap this, and the absence of a decent
amount of memory is causing this problem.
Computers don't need to be very old before they can become troublesome
if you don't have a regime of maintenance.
