Hi everyone,
I went to the crucial website and was going to do the scan until a box opened with a license agreement that I had to say OK to, and a lot I didn't' understand like?something about no responsibility?for?lost data, and no?liability for any?costs, so?I decided not to scan my computer.? It also said to do the scan I had to?downloading software.
Is there a way to find out what my computer?has inside?exactly, hard drive, memory, etc. etc.?? I seem to remember something about?dual memory (maybe the letter H involved?), or something like that when?I ordered it.
I guess I could ask HP huh?
Thanks,?
Kelly?

Tell her to buy more RAM - 128MB is a miserable amount to try an run
windows XP on. IMHO she needs at least 512MB, tell her to go to the
crucial website and let it scan her computer.

Hi Kelly
The Crucial scan is quite safe but you can discover all your pc spec by
downloading, installing and running one of the following free utilities:
Everest.exe
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html
or
Aida32.exe

Kelly
I can assure that it is perfectly safe, they probably need a
disclaimer to prevent vexatious claims for damages from morons who
have no justification for claiming. Better to say categorically that
they have no liability whatsoever.
The site also provides the opportunity to provide details of the make,
product line and model of the computer. But as people are often
woefully ignorant of such information it is far easier to suggest that
everyone uses the scanner, heaven forbid that I may be rash enough to
suggest that they could open their computers and examine the existing
memory strips and count the number of spare slots available. Or for
that matter consult the users guide/manual that may have come with
their computers.
Of course you can use Belarc advisor and similar software to do an
audit of your hardware, but again I think you will run in to a disclaimer.
Funny enough, I have never seen a single example where anyone has
stated that a Crucial scan has damaged their computer, of course I
have seen the converse of this where sheer unmitigated ignorance has
caused people to buy the wrong memory for there computer. Here is a
case where a guy didn't use crucial and paid scant attention to the
scanner's recommendation, because he thought they were a bit expensive:
(From a group that I belong to)
Hi Guys,
Thought I should give you an update (more like own up!).
Have been struggling with this for some time, and nothing that I did
seemed to enable the stick to be recognised.
Thought I should run the Crucial scan again, just to make sure that I
didn't misread it last time. The scan still advises that I need 512 MB
PC133 SDRAM, what I seem to have missed before is the smallprint:
"Each memory slot can hold SDRAM, PC133 with a maximum of 256MB per slot".
Hence, the 512 MB stick is completely useless to me, and cannot be
returned. I wonder what these go for on ebay!
Apologies for wasting everyone's time.
Thanks again.
If he had followed the crucial recommendation to the letter and
purchased from them he would have been ok. I wish you luck in your
own endeavours.
