Sorry, I can't be of more help. Like notebooks, I try to avoid wireless
networking... I just have so many problems configuring it and getting it to
stay configured (perhaps my customers are partly the problem with the second
issue!) that I try not to do any work involving wireless.

Subject: [CHAD] Laprop Wireless problem

I have hit a snag that I can't get past in this Dell Inspiron 4150
laptop rinnging XP pro. I have cleaned the system of some small spyware
and adware issues, and re-installed XP to repair any faults in the
system files, and all is well except I can not get any wireless card to
connect to any access point. I can plug in an ethernet cable in, and it
goes right on line, so I don't think there is a problem with any of the
Network files. I have ran WinsockXPfix.exe just to make sure, and
rebooted my router to no avail.

I intitally put in a rather generic Atheros based wireless card, since I
have used these in Dell C610 series before, and they work just fine.
When I couldn't get that one to connect I installed a Dell True mobile
card, since I know which drivers to use for it. Same thing.
Then I put a Wireless card in the PCMCIA slot, the same card I have put
in dozens of laptops for sale that didn't have an internal wireless
slot, and guess what? It has exactly the same problem--Won't connect.
So I took the laptop and started driving around the neighborhood LOL
looking for unsecured Access points. I finally stopped at a Hamburger
place that advertizes free wireless, and it wouldn't connect up there
either.

So now I don't know what more to do, other than installing a fresh copy
of XP and informing the customer she will have to re-install all her
applications etc.

Any one have experience with a connection problem at this level that you
were able to fix?
