Sometimes. After the worm is known to be prevalent in the wild, most
AV companies will include it. However, an AV program really doesn't
inherently look at a worm the same way a spyware/trojan scanner
will. While some AV programs have some <pretty> good hueristics now,
you really can't depend upon them to look for this kind of thing.
It's better to have a backup plan. It would be more accurate to say
a good AV *can* catch a worm, but even a good AV program is not built
to look for that sort of thing, it looks for a different kind of
threat and will always find that threat more reliably and handle it
better than it will handle a threat it's not really coded for
specifically.
I am against relying on a "super" scanner or an all-in-one solution
for threats that are different in nature, because anytime you write
an all-in-one solution there is a much greater chance that the
program will be buggy or become so cumbersome and bloated that the
computer gets bogged down. I prefer a few really good programs that
are fast and efficient and built to do their task. So far that has
worked very well for me and all the other computers I maintain.

And technically you are correct, however, Worms are generally ferreted
out by AV software, rather than Anti-Spyware.
