Win XP_Pro [IBM] IE v6 sp2
Connection is LAN to router to ISP via DSL.
Computer user must have admin rights run legacy DB program across LAN.
Request is to block all browser activity but allow e-mail using OE.

Logged in from Administrator in Safe mode. . . .
I've attempted policy from within control panel computer management without
success.
Also downloaded IEAK6. The right options were presented but I was not able
to get the changes to restrict Internet Explorer.
I'll try your suggestion and let you know later.

Hello Ken,

You didn't mention what version of Internet Explorer or Windows you are
using. If you are using Windows 2000 or Windows XP Pro on a computer that is
not connected to a domain, you can configure numerous settings in Internet
Explorer using the Group Policy Editor (GPE). To start the Group Policy
Editor, click Start then Run and GPEDIT.MSC then press enter. Under the
Local Computer Policy, expand User Configuration, then Administrative
Templates, then Windows Components, then Internet Explorer. From there you
will be able to configure many settings for IE. I am not sure what you mean
by crippling IE, but this might give you the options you are looking for.

If you are using a domain network, you can configure these settings by user
with the GPE from the server including prohibiting a user from running IE at
all.

Cheers,
Chem

Has anyone crippled Internet Explorer to prevent browsing while allowing
Outlook Express?
Any tips?

Hello Ken,

One other option you might be interested in is Microsoft's Steady State. It
is available for free for Windows XP users and will let you lock down the
computer in many different ways. It will optionally restore the computer to
its original state on restart. It restricts access based on the user that
logs on.
