Are you able to get to another computer to try and download them? I gave up using card readers when my laptop came with a built in reader. One thing also worth trying is maybe going to a store where you can print photos to see whether the machine reads the card and shows you the photos on there.

I used to have an Olympus camera but I can't remember whether the XD card had one of those switches to protect from deleting pictures.

Subject: [CHAD] XD card and Olympus camera

Anyone here a big digital photography expert? I'm just sick... I took about
800 high-res frames at the Grand Canyon last week and was unable to download
them using my Olympus card reader. Windows kept closing the program. Now
even the camera won't read the card and it wants to format it. I won't let
it do that because the pictures HAVE to be on there somewhere.

I've been using an XD card and the reader for a couple years with no
trouble. This is the first time I've used my new Olympus, but an XD card is
an XD card, isn't it? I got a new 2 gig card when I bought the camera.
