Hello Group,
My Operating System is Microsoft Windows XP, Home Edition, Version
2002, Service Pack 2 on a HP Pavillian dv4000 series. Intel(R)
Celeron(R)M processor 1.50GHz, 1.50 GHz, 504MB of RAM.
A couple of weeks ago I downloaded some software, ActiveX, ObjectX,
one of the two, I'm not sure at this point, (I was trying to view some
videos which suggested that I needed to download them to view them,
stupid me).
Well after I attempted to download the software, all h**l broke
loose. Dialog boxes started popping up saying that someone is trying
to invade your system, blah, blah, blah. So every time I tried to
clear the up the problem, same thing, more dialog boxes filled with
the same warnings.
Well my Norton Internet Security had expired, so I was not up to date
on my subscription, again, stupid me. I then went to CNET and
downloaded some free Adware software possibly to help clean up my
mess. It helped a little, but not a hole lot.
So I broke down and purchased a PCTools software package and updated
my Norton Internet Security package.$$$ It cleared up, or should I
say cleaned up my registry and the what not's. I did a the system
restore from the PCTools package. So no more dialog boxes.
But like the subject says, RUNNING SLOOOOOWWW!!! And what I mean by
running slow...going from application to application just takes so
long. Some times I can click on a TAB, and it will change to that TAB
instantly. But the majority of the time it just sits there like, HUH,
YOU WANT ME TO WHAT, WHAT, WHAT, WHAT, WHAT, WHAT, WHAT...I think you
get the picture. This happens no matter whether I'm on the internet
or not, (I'm still on dial-up). :-(
I want to do the System Restore that's on the Windows XP, but I don't
want to risk that bug, that virus, or whatever it was that caused my
system to go bonkers in the first place.
Any knowledge from those in the know will be much, much, much
appreciated.
Thank You,
Regards,
Darryl

Spybot,Adaware, and A Squareed then tell us what they found and di it help
after you deleted the items found.
Also use Highjack This too see what little goodies it finds .
Use something like AVG for antivirus and Zone Alarm for firewall unless you
have something like these already.
You can google all of these and download from there.
If your on dialup,I`ll get them for you to speed things up if you want.

You should first clear your files in system restore by disabling it,
then reboot and re-enable it. Those restration points it now holds are
infected.

I would also suggest that you uninstall Norton. Use AVG Grisoft
instead. Use the Norton removal tool!!!
