Greetings All
Toshiba Satellite 1105-S2716 Laptop
Logitech optical mouse... other than adding new battteries, easily the
most trouble free tech item I've owned.
I kept thinking gee, this battery had really lasted a long time.. I
also was keeping the USB plugged in, instead of reattaching to the
bottom of the mouse overnight... Now it is dead.. tried both alkalines,
& recahgables... nada... aslo reset after install new battery.
I love my little mouse... just fits my hand, & no rubber, which I'm
allergic too.
Plus, this keypad is making me bonkers...If sent the screwiest
unfinshed letters, that whish away onto cyberspace... deleted an hours
woth of composition at a slight pause. jumps back & transposes letters
& sentences.. Hate it hate it hate it...
Is there any hope for my competant little mouse? or must I replace
it?:(
Also, my laptop is needing to go in for some fixes, such as letter r
popped off, & no sound... still have Office despot warrenty... what are
the best practices when sending a laptop for repair? just save onto
dics all pics & documents you must save? or is this better done on a
thumb drive?
Thanks for considering my lengthy inquiry.. the mouse is the most
imortant right now.
Best regards to all,
chris

Hi chris. If you are sure the batteries are being installed with the
proper polarity, there is not anything else you can do except replace
the mouse.
If you are going to send your laptop away to be repaired, your best bet
is to clone the whole drive, or at least do a backup of any docs you
don't want to lose. I would normally recommend you take the hard drive
completely out, but since you have a sound problem it might be related
to the drivers, which are stored in the hard drive and they will need it
to be able to repair it. But I have heard more than once of people
getting their laptops back only to find that the drive had been
formatted and a fresh copy of Windows had been installed, resulting in a
loss of ALL their data. Most shops are just looking for the fastest way
to solve the problem, and if a fresh install is it, that is what they
do. It takes considerable time and effort to repair a corrupted
operating system properly while saving all the data and applications
already installed.
