Abed,
My wife has an Emachine that I added a new (MUCH better) video card to.
I thought it should be nothing more then telling the BIOS to use the card
and
not the onboard, installing the card and the drivers and everything would
be fine.

however, this was not the case. Emachines had the on board drivers
burried so
deep in the system that even after unisntalling the drivers and running a
reg. cleaner
to remove anything else it still was useing some of the on board and some
of the card
(I know it's weird.. I had another post about how my wife could have good
framerates
on a FPS game and HORRIBLE rates on any MMO..it was all about the video
card)

the only thing I can tell you that should help with some headaches is to
reinstall windows
Our Emachine recovery CD only reinstalled windows. it didn't install all
the extra crap that
came with the machine like McAfee and even the on board video drivers. it
dropped to
a clean install using only the standard VGA driver.

>From there I changed the BIOS settings and installed the card, then
updated the driver.
she hasn't had a problem sense.

Hope that helps!

There is a little known technique to get rid of all unused drivers for
devices that are now, or were at one time, listed in the control Panel
device manager. It is the last section in the article at
http://forbiddenpc.com/unclean.htm This article explains how to remove
the old drivers after replacing the motherboard in your computer. In
your case, just follow the instructions to get to the device manager
list of drivers for the Display adapter and delete them all.
