How can I disable "compact messages" from Outlook Express?

First, I want to thank all those who have replied to my numberous requests
for help on this list. I also thank in advance all those who will help in
the future. (I subscribe in digest form and don't want to clutter up
information emails with non-essential info. But please consider yourselves
thanked; I do appreciate your assistance and expertise.)

My question concerns the unwanted windows that are popping up with
increasing frequency when I open up Outlook Express. It says something like
"Outlook Express will compact messages now. Proceed?" If I click "yes," I
have to wait to use the program until it's done doing its thing. Then there
are all those extra files to delete from the recycle bin. If I click "no,"
it invariably insists on asking me again in a minute or so. So I give in and
say "yes." But now this is happening just about every day.

My computer has plenty of room and I find this function rather annoying. Is
there any way to disable it?

Thanks.
Nenah

Through the registry, but I don't recommend that for a couple
reasons. There IS, however, a setting in your preferences somewhere
to decide how big the space saved must be to trigger compacting. You
could set it up to trigger when it will save 2000 Kb instead of 500,
for instance. Then it would be less annoying and still help you.

Go to tools/options/(tab Maintenance)/

There should be compact message when there is a ( ) percent wasted space.
Change this to 15% to 20% just a suggestion. If you check "Clean up now" it should show how much wasted space there is. The more saved messages the bigger the chance to get wasted space.
