Hi Gene,
Thanks for clearing that up for me. I will be sure NOT to get Vista Home
Basic whenever I get another pc and I have some family members to pass this
along to that will appreciate this.
Cheers, Debbie

Hi Debbie,
Windows XP Home is geared to home users. Windows XP Professional is
geared to businesses, which has support for dual processors, Remote
Desktop, Automated System Recovery (Backup) and Dynamic Disk Support.
Windows XP Media Center Edition actually is an enhanced version of
Windows XP Professional. XP Media Center Edition has additional
multimedia features like being able to watch and record TV shows, view
DVD's etc.
I don't believe that any XP version is more secure as they are all
susceptible to the same hazards, except XP Professional has EFS
(Encrypting File System), which allows encrypting individual files &
folders for local security only.
Vista Home Basic is a watered down version of Vista. Upgrading from
XP Home to Vista Home Basic is really a downgrade; You are better off
keeping XP Home.

Subject: RE: [CHAD] laptop brand question
Hi Gene,
Do I understand you right that XP Media is as good as XP Professional?
I first had XP Home but now have XP Media but I do not see a
difference in the two while I do notice the difference with the
Professional version that I use at work (government). Is XP Media more
secure than XP Home?
I always found the different versions of XP confusing and even more so
with Vista. I guess that Vista Home Basic would be the OS to avoid?
Thanks,
Debbie
