Hello group,
I am really sad because I asked the same question on the other group
and some how it was never posted (Computer tip & tricks). My Norton
Anti Virus is coming up due, and I was wondering if I should renew? I
have heard that it is a resourse hog, and slows down your computer. I
do notice a slow computer, but it has always been like that. What
would be compairable to Norton that could be cheaper or free? Could I
just use Windows defender? Thanks for any help.

No you cannot just use Windows Defender, which simply carries out some
of the functions of an anti-spyware application.
The most popular free anti-virus programs are Avast or AVG.
Either is for all practical purposes a lot better than better than
Norton or similar paid anti-virus products.
I have used both Avast and AVG, but prefer Avast which has never let
me down in over 3 years. Although the newest version of Norton is not
quite the resource hog it once was, I recommend that everyone gives it
the boot. Any company that make it so difficult to remove their
products is not to be trusted. A lot of people renew because they
cannot remove it. Go and read about the trusted free alternatives:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
http://free.grisoft.com/
The AVG (Grisoft) free anti-spyware and anti-rootkit are also worth
installing.
