Title: Firewall Engineer - JVN #1611 (two positions)
Salary Range to $90,000 plus Excellent Comprehensive

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

DoITT follows a multi-vendor firewall strategy in our
environment, which consists of over 30 firewalls protecting
the City’s internal and external data networks and
support an extensive VPN user community, consisting of IPSEC
and SSL clients and site-to-site IPSEC connections.  We are
the first line of defense for an enterprise network that
consists of over 50 City agencies and a primary responder in
the case of a cyber attack on the City’s resources.

Responsibilities include: 
- Make changes to firewall rule sets; 
- Define and troubleshoot site-to-site VPN connections; 
- Support IPSEC client and SSL VPN changes and problems; 
- Perform other related tasks as necessary to the operation
of the team; 
- Network packets tracing tools will be used to debug and
analyze network traffic flow.
 
* 11 AM – 7 PM, Monday through Friday and 1 PM
– 9 PM, Monday through Friday.  Overtime may be
required as needed to meet operational needs and employees
may be required to be on call to respond to emergencies. *


JOB REQUIREMENTS

PREFERRED SKILLS:
- A minimum of two years hands-on experience working with
Cisco PIX and/or Checkpoint NG firewalls;  
- Experience with Cisco FWSM blades and with Nokia
appliances is desirable; 
- Familiarity with the Checkpoint VPN Edge architecture,
Cisco VMS, Firemon firewall auditing, and Nokia Horizon
Manager.  
- Experience should also include support for site-to-site
VPN connections in a Checkpoint environment. 
- Unix experience is a definite plus, as is operational
experience with DNS, sendmail and/or Juniper SSL VPN
appliances.

CIVIL SERVICE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
1.A Master's Degree in computer science from an accredited
college and three years of progressively more responsible,
full-time, satisfactory experience using mainframe, mini- or
micro-computer technology in computer applications
programming, systems programming, computer systems
development, data telecommunications, data base
administration, or planning of data processing, at least 18
months of this experience must have been in an
administrative, managerial or executive capacity in the
areas of computer applications programming, systems
programming, computer systems development, data
telecommunications, data base administration, or planning of
data processing or in the supervision of staff performing
these duties, -OR-
2. A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college and four
years of experience as described above -OR-
3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational
equivalent and six years of experience as described above,
-OR-
Education and experience equivalent to the above.  However,
all candidates must have at least a high school diploma or
its equivalent and must possess at least three years
experience as described above, including the 18 months of
administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory
experience as described above.

NOTE: The following types of experience are NOT acceptable;
superficial use of preprogrammed software without complex
programming, design, implementation or management of the
product; use of word processing packages; use of a hand held
calculator;  primarily the entering or updating of data in a
system;  the operation of data processing hardware or
consoles.
