cursor misbehaving

Just interesting to me.
Win 95 machine(used to keep running old $1000+  program).
Anyway--the cursor 
among the icons and toolbars is the normal arrow cursor.  In
both Excel and 
Notepad the cursor changes to a 1" square block when
the mouse moves the 
cursor over the text-data  entry  areas.  Probably a
registry error.  
Something to live with!
