Samsung SyncMaster 940UX is an LCD monitor that connects thru a USB port. ; I want a second monitor but don't want to buy a new video card and power supply. But $340 may be too much? ; I can't find any other (cheap) USB-monitors. Are there any? I'll ask at Staples or Best Buy next time I'm in town.

Video cards are cheap (maybe $50 or so) unless you are into
gaming or
high-end movie making. I can't imagine a USB monitor being
anywhere on
par with even VGA, let alone digital output. Most cards
anymore have two
outputs for monitors. I've run two monitors for years, and
always with
one card. For $350 you could buy a card and two monitors
these days.
Again, nothing high-end.

Best Buy and Staples is not the place to ask tech questions.
At the very
least ask someone in the computer business.

Just my thoughts....

I agree with you Hal. Quite frankly, I have never heard of a
USB monitor
before! :-O

The video card I have have two monitor connections. One
analog and one
digital. I have two monitors but one is hooked up to the
video card, and
the other to the onboard video (which has a connection for a
digital
monitor as well) on the MB.

This site will let you search for other USB monitors. Not seen any in use so I have no opinion one way or another.

http://www.everythingusb.com/

Here is what everythingusb.com?subject=Samsung%20SyncMaster%20940UX%20Feedback">R. Scott Clark, Consumer Technology Editor thinks

Samsung's SyncMaster 940UX makes for a wonderful monitor in a typical office environment, with great color accuracy, sharpness, and even backlighting to boot. The pixel response time of 15ms+ may not be the best for hardcore gamers, although weekend warriors and light movie watchers will find it more than suitable. The scalable USB monitor interface promises and delivers with its ease of setup and hands-off driver installation, and can keep up with most video tasks albeit with some artifacts and occasional frame drops. Just don't expect the USB interface to play nicely with 3D games and CAD design programs.
