Thread: permission coverage

We have a document covered under this license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/2.5/).  Currently we are seeking permission to use certain images in said document.  My question is, does the permission given to us also cover those who change it?  In other words does the permission cover any and all permutations of the document?

My concern is that often permission is granted for a document which is for educational use, which this document is, but that same document could potentially be changed by another user into something not for education use.

Thank you

I am not a lawyer, but my guess is that if you only have
permission to
use the images for educational use you could not reasonably
offer them
under a BY-NC license, which does not preclude
non-educational uses so
long as they are not for commercial advantage.

You could offer your original content under BY-NC (the text
only, I
guess) or you could find alternative images that are
licensed under BY
or BY-NC. There are millions available via
http://flickr.com/c
reativecommons

If on the document itself we mark the images permitted only
for
educational uses with:

"Permission has been granted to use this image for
educational
purposes only. Thus, if this work is changed into something
that is
not educational, this image must be removed."

Could that work?

Some of the images used in the document were made for use
with the
document so a text only license wouldn't work.

Thank you

Sounds reasonable to me, but again I am not a lawyer.

Where you state that the document is covered under BY-NC you
may want to
add "except where otherwise noted" as you
wouldn't be licensing such
photographs under BY-NC.
