Web engineer

Web Engineer needed for growing high-tech nonprofit in Johannesburg, South Africa. Tasks include Linux server administration and web application integration, development and maintenance, responding to webmastericommons.org">webmastericommons.org. Bug reports and other development and support tasks as needed.  Reports to the iCommons Executive Director. 

Starting: 1 February, 2007 

===Major Responsibilities (include but not limited to)===
*Linux server administration (software installation, maintenance, security, backup, reporting)
*Web and other application development, integration, maintenance, support and testing
*Promptly fix or escalate problems reported to webmastericommons.org">webmastericommons.org and other channels
*Other development and support tasks as requested

===Education Requirements===
*None!

===Experience Requirements===
*2+ years experience developing and supporting websites, software, or servers

===Skill Requirements===
Demonstrable intermediate facility with at least the following:
*Linux server administration
*Scripting for system administration (especially shell and Python)
*Scripting for web development (especially PHP)
*XHTML/CSS/Javascript
*SQL (especially MySQL)

===Other Qualifications===
*'''Attention to detail, unwilling to accept brokenness'''
*Familiarity with Free Culture and Free/Libre/Open Source Software desirable
*Previous contributions to FLOSS projects highly desirable (point to specific projects, bug reports and patches)
*Ability to simultaneously manage multiple tasks with varying deadlines
*Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely and complete manner
*Self-starter who can operate with a minimum of supervision
*Good general communication skills
*Ability to work remotely with a highly flexible schedule to accomodate meetings in different time zones. Relocation expenses not available.

It's an in-house position (i.e. no telecommute stylee just yet) and re. international candidates, we're not opposed to this but will need to look into visa requirements etc.
