Thread: aliased alias ?

aliased alias ?

I have been working on converting my vpopmail system to
dbmail. The
only problem I have had so far is that I cannot add an alias
to point
to another alias on the same system. You may ask yourself,
why would
I want to do that? There are a few reasons. Here is one.

I work at a call center. We have high employee turn around.
 So when
an employee leaves, I delete their account and then create
an alias
with the same name that points to the department manager.
Our
department managers also come and go or are out sick, so I
have an
alias pointing to them so I can easily redirect their mail.

So mail from (Xemployee1)-goes
to->(deptmanager)->realuseraccount
Each of the above entries in () is an alias.

This makes management very easy. According to the database
schema, an
alias points to a user_idnr, which means that it needs to be
a real
user to work. Is there anyway around this within dbmail?

Thanks,

Matt

You can point an alias to another alias, the lookup is
recursive.

Pardon my ignorance, but going through the man pages for
dbmail-users,
I don't see any syntax for adding an alias that points to
another
alias. I also dont see how it can do it using the dbmail
schema.

Perhaps you could enlighten me a bit more?

Thanks,

Matt

That's exactly what I needed. I didn't know that I could
populate the
deliver_to field in the dbmail_aliases table with e-mail
addresses.

Thanks
