| How to Filter in dbmail |

|

Usually i have a postfix and courier imap server. But now i
thought i would use dbmail
since its database based, to see how it is.
Anyway, i would usually use maildrop or procmail to filter
all the email marked as spam
to a certain folder. But since the emails are stored in
dbmail and not a maildir like it
is in courier, i just don't know how this is gonna work.
I would like to install spam and virus filter and
individually filter the mail in
separate folder of the users email. I don't know what i can
use to do this.
I read people use amavis, but there is no complete howto,
especially for dbmail.
Also i don't know how to run sa-learn for bayes teaching the
spam, again since its all
in db and not stored on file.
Since I've used dbmail i found my server to be quite fast
and responsive, however there
is also the whole complication of not accessing the email
directly.
Does anyone know of a good, complete, howto to get dbmail
working fully, with all the
spam/virus stuff working. I really need to get this working,
or else i would be forced
to go back to a more conventional server.
Once again, the work that has been going on in dbmail is
amazing, i haven't tried the
unstable version yet but i will once i see sieve is in
working order, because that would
be absolutely amazing.

I currently use MailScanner with DBMail, it's great.
I even posted my steps in the Dbmail WIKI:

The thing is, this setup doesn't have per user filtering,
like blacklisting and bayes
learning in per user basis. Thats what i would like to
setup.

You perform the filtering between postfix and dbmail. I
personally use
postfix<>amavis<>dbmail setup, however, I'm
looking to move over to custom
setup and add user specific filtering (probably a user
definable procmail
recipe or something)
Using sa-learn from the db email is fairly easy. I use imap
and have a
separate folder called 'junk' where I move email over to if
it's junk. Then
occasionally run a perl script which pulls the emails out
and places them in
to a directory (spam/) which I can then run sa-learn on.
You can view the perl script I use to pull out the emails
here:
http:
//www.safedelivery.net/scripts/get_junk.pl
You'll also need to run sa-learn as the user who performs
your spam checking
instead of any other user since generally the sa/Bayesian
stuff is on a per
usage basis. You'll need to ensure that user has read access
to these files.
Probably best to chown all the files in the spam/ to the
spam checking user.
Then su to that user and do 'sa-learn --spam *' within that
directory.
Could always extend this to a cron job to do it periodically
do this for you
;)
I'm still on the dbmail 1.2 branch and haven't tested on
dbmail 2.x. should
work without too many modifications.

Does anybody use Exim?
As for filtering: in Exim transport for DBMail it is
possible to
specify an IMAP folder, to which the message will be placed.
That's
how I put Spam (marked with SA) to the Spam folder.
So I thought: why not to make a 'wrapper' for the
dbmail-smtp? The
program, where Exim will put the letter; the program will
possibly
connect to the database to get user's sorting rules (or have
some
fixed ruleset, defined in it's conf-file), analyze the
letter and make
a decision to which IMAP-folder dbmail-smtp will place this
message
(it'll later pipe the message to dbmail-smtp).
The ruleset for each user could also be fetched from
SquirrelMail
filtering plug-in (from MySQL, for example), so that the
rulesets
would be easily editable through web-interface on a per-user
basis.
Probably, this could also be used in other MTAs.
Such or similar functionality could be very desirable in
DBMail
itself
