Deleting an account

When deleting an account, do the mails associated to the account marked deleted? If not, would it be nice to add a query like "Would u like to delete all the mails for this account?" which is equal to dbmail-users -e name?

This depends on what version of dbmail you have, and maybe
on what
tool you use to delete the account. In old (1.2 series) and
very recent
(2.2.6ish) versions, the mail will get cleaned up at the
next run of
dbmail-util; but there's a big stretch in the middle (most
of 2.2
series ... I don't remember where 2.0 falls) where it won't.
 As for
tools, it's possible dbma would do that correctly, but I
don't use it so
can't test it, and don't remember 100% if it does.

Thanks for the explanation. I now use 2.2.6rc1. What do u mean of "the mail will get cleaned up at the next run of
dbmail-util"? Does it mean the mail mark for purge?

I don't mind running dbmail-users -e everytime I delete an account but it would be nice to have a query to ask for emptying the account9;s mailbox. But if the mail marked deleted then it would be nice too. dbmail-util -dy will surely take care of it.

When you delete an account, it's mailboxes get removed via
foreign
keys, and the messages underneath those, but the physical
message blocks
(ie. the actual mail messages, the bulk of the size) do not;
dbmail-util
now checks for and cleans up such messages, so the next time
you run it
things should be cleaned up.

I'm pretty sure that exists .. I think maybe via
dbmail-export? Or
maybe it's dbmail-util. The above problem of abandoned
physmessageblks
is when you delete an account without first deleting the
messages in
that account's mailboxes (which is different than emptying
an existing
account's mailbox).

Dunno what switch does it, but one of them....

It's both now, but different in important ways.

dbmail-users -e removes away all messages and all mailboxes owned by a
particular user. It's best for clearing out junk accounts.

How about a combination of arguments for removing all the messages and mailboxes when deleting an account e.g dbmail-users -d username -e / dbmail-users -de username ?
