Hello,

I'm having a problem with Mozilla Thunderbird and dbmail
running on
debian unstable (debian package dbmail2-mysql
2.0.7+20060109-1). If I do
a search for imap messages in Thunderbird with three or more
"OR" search
terms, such as "match any of the following: subject
contains: foo, bar,
baz", Thunderbird only finds messages matching the last
term (e.g.
"baz"), and not all messages matching any of the
terms as it should.

I have tested Windows and Linux versions of Thunderbird,
including the
latest nightly trunk build. I thought this was a problem
with
Thunderbird and filed a bug at
h
ttps://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=324678 but I
tested with
another IMAP server (which I unfortunately don't know
anything about,
like whether it's dbmail or not) and with that server the
search works
exactly as it should. Also, on the problematic dbmail
server, searching
with Evolution or Horde IMP works as it should. It's
Thunderbird and
dbmail that somehow don't play along.

Any ideas on this? I tried searching in the bug tracking
system and the
mailing lists but didn't find anything.

kind regards,
Tuukka

Hi there,

The whole search setup was rewritten for 2.1 recently for
good reason. Search in
2.0 is not perfect. It works for most situations, but is
generally just way too
slow. Search's poor performance was why I started hacking on
dbmail in the first
place, right after 2.0 was released. Even though search/sort
in 2.1 is not
foolproof yet, it has been fully normalized: all header
searches are done
directly on the header-cache tables, not by retrieving and
parsing full
messageblks one by one as in 2.0.

So in short: this is a won't-fix as far as 2.0 is concerned
but it has top
priority for development in general.
