That's right. But you only have to change those
implementations,
not the DHCP protocol itself. The DHCP protocol is used in
more
places than just the interaction between HGW and NAS at
broadband
ISPs. Broadband ISP network development is done by smart
people
like us. DHCP end users don't even know what an IP packet
looks
like or how it gets from their computer to the DHCP server -
to them,
a DHCP protocol problem translates into the single bit:
"the network
isn't working." And they have nobody to call to debug
it - all they
can do is reboot and hope the problem goes away. So I'm
very
sympathetic to the idea of easing the transition your
customers face,
but I also have to be protective of those other customers.
