These two sound quite reasonable.  I also like your show
idea.  Could be
useful for that svn-status style command that is being
requested.

To sum up some other proposals (haven't gotten around to
reading Max's
mail), we might have something like

  show tree
  show manifest
  show contents (query cat) - someday
  show status   (whatsnew -l -s --non-recursive?)

Depending on how the debate goes, of course...
