Just to give you a little background on the problem,

We currently run some 3rd party software which produces all sorts of CNC files which are used in our factory for the production of double glazing units. The software builds Paradox tables from its internal data, which are used for reporting via Crystal 8 and Report builder which are integrated into it. These Paradox tables are rebuilt (on the local PC) every time a report is run.

We needed an automated method of extracting the data from the Paradox tables, massaging it and then presenting it to our AS400 financials package. This I managed by creating a Crystal UDF that simply signaled when ever a specific report had been run, this was picked up by a monitor program which then activated the transfer sytem.

This has been working successfully for several years now, and our production manager wants to extend this idea so that he can capture statistical data for later manipulation in a spreadsheet.

My idea was to extend the original UDF so that I could include an integer ID in the Message which would tell the monitor program what data tables needed to be scanned.

Therefore the variable n in the code is (currently) and arbitary value > 0 which will be used in the Monitor program, I am currently trying to return the input value (n) back to Crystal where it will be displayed in the report for sanity check pruposes.

Sorry for the length of this email, but hopefully all will now understand were I am coming from with this problem.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Paul
