IntraWeb? WebSnap?

Good Morning!

My wife has a vision for a web site. Since I will be the one
implementing that vision, I am want to know how Delphi coders feel
about IntraWeb. How about WebSnap?

Do these work together? Do you need only one of them or both?

I have Delphi 6 Pro. Neither of these are included. What version of
Delphi do I need? Delphi 7? or later?

Thanks...Dan'l

I hear good things about IntraWeb, though I've not used it personally
yet. A "CodeGear" version of it is included in D2007. There are demos
videos of it from the last CodeRush virtual conference, that I think can
still be downloaded.

Standalone, I believe it works w/D6 as well.

I have IntraWeb with my D6Pro version. I think I downloaded it from their web site way back when.

It depends on what kind of website are you going to build.
If it has a high complexity then IntraWeb might be good.
WebSnap is when you want to create a n-tier database application.
You don't need WebSnap if you use IntraWeb.

If the web-site is quite simpe, you can use PHP as a good alternative;
and it is more flexible to design (IntraWeb depends on supported widgets
and IntraWeb does a lot of javascript for you).

AS I UNDERSTAND, THE WEBSITE WON'T BE SOME CORPORATE GIANT, HENCE I WOULD
PROBABLY GO FOR PHP, BUT THAT DEPENDS ON WHETHER OR NOT YOU ACTUALLY *KNOW*
PHP. OR, MAYBE, YOU'D FANCY LEARNING IT?

GOING FOR PHP HAS A FEW BENEFITS, ASIDE FROM THE OBVIOUS DRAWBACK OF HAVING TO
LEARN IT FIRST, E.G. YOU'LL EASILY FIND A HOSTING SERVICE FOR IT (WHICH NOT
NECESSARILY MIGHT BE THE CASE WITH THE DELPHI/INTRAWEB APPROACH), NOT HAVING
TO RECOMPILE TO SEE THE CHANGES ON-SITE, NOT USING PROPRIETARY TECHNOLOGIES
FOR YOUR WEBSITE (THAT'S A BIG ONE FOR ME ;) ), ETC.
