My application hogs memory and does not release it

Hi
I have a MFC application (.exe) which uses components
developed in ATL and VB. When the application runs and for
subsequent calls to these components developed in VB or ATL
then the application keeps on eating memory and it reaches a
stage where the entire computer working goes slow as RAM is
occupied fully by this process. It will sometime go to 50 to
60 MB of memory usage also and never comes down eventhough
the components releases them
When user minimizes the entire application then the
application consumes only 2MB of memory. This seems to be a
solution but if I minimize and maximize the application the
entire application flickers and user will be uncomfortable
with this.
I tried to use setProcessWorkingsetsize function but this
always returns false irrespective of whatever I give as the
first argument. I tried giving this, AfxGetApp(),
AfxGetApp()->Getmainwnd(),
AfxGetApp()->GetmainWnd()->getsafehwnd() for the first
parameter. No luck
Any clues as to what should be done.
Thanks in advance
