We have appointed to shortlist Candidate's profiles by Our
US Based MNC
client  in Chennai on the following skill sets.
 
TITLE: Software Test Engineer 
 
ROLE OBJECTIVE
 
Self-motivated individual that will be responsible for
design, execute
and automate test plans for Switching and IP Routing
systems. This
person would be responsible for working closely with
Customer Service
(TAC) and Software Development team to make sure that
product shipped is
100% error free. 
 
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY  

. He/She will be responsible for development testing and
integration
testing of Switching and Routing protocols.
. Create test plan for feature testing and automate them. 
. Project manage the testing effort and bug tracking. 
. Participate in design discussions and product definition.

. Acting as a mentor and technical resource to more junior
staffers.  
 
KEY INTERACTIONS  
Internal
                Engineering (software development,
Regression & ASIC
teams), TAC, Technical marketing & other user
departments 
External
 Customers-               
                Business Partners/Consultants- 
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 
 
Level of Education
 Bachelor of Engineering from a reputed University - B.E. 

Experience
 At least three years hands-on experience with Switches and
Routers
 
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
 
Functional Knowledge 
 In-depth- knowledge of internals of IP Routing and LAN
Switching
equipments. Prior experience with Router and Switch vendors
a must. 
 Hands-on experience with- Switching Protocols
(VLAN/LACP/STP/RSTP/MSTP), or IP Routing Protocols
(OSPF/BGP/ISIS), or
IP Multicast Protocols                 (PIM/MSDP/MLD/IGMP) 
 Knowledge of MPLS Protocols a plus.-
 Knowledge of security features- like AAA, TACACS, RADIUS a
plus.
 Must have experience with performance- testing tools like
IXIA,
Smartbits, QARobot, ANVL, etc. 
 Experience in- automating the test cases with Expect/TCL or
in-house
tool. 
 Experience in- ISP Environment or any production network
desired. 
 Experience with- qualifying backplanes/hardware
sub-systems/boards a
plus
 Proven creative- approach to simulating complex scenarios
 Good debugging skills.- 
 Understanding of scalability and performance metrics and-
limitations
 Perl/TCL Scripting a must-
 Willingness to own problems and- drive them to solutions. 
 

Behavioral Skills 
 Excellent communication skills, both written, video and
oral,- as well
as exceptional organizational skills. 
 Ability to work well with- others in a team environment as
well as
independently. 
 Ability to work- with software development team for
analyzing the bugs,
finding workarounds, updating the bug reports in a timely
manner.
 Willingness to create training- sessions for the features
tested. 
 Ability to provide updates for technical- publication
documents.
 
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS 
Needs to provide leadership to fledgling offshore group in
Chennai
India. Must be willing to do "what to takes" to
ensure the success of
this organization in the areas of: Feature testing,
delivering quality
product/software
Providing issue leadership with respect to organization.
Working closely
with TAC/Technical marketing/Service Engineers to provide
you with the
information and support you need to solve their problems
Providing group leadership and guidance in your assigned
area of
expertise.
