Tesseract seems a bit raw (heh, 1995 called, and they want
their hard-coded
paths back ).
There is also a bit of it (I didn't look that closely, but
some kind of
back-propagation learning algorithm, perhaps) that is under
a "no-commercial
gain" license.
A promising development, but needs some care and attention
before it would be
practical to use in KOffice (or kooka, or okular, whatever).
