Why don't we leave the stuff as is and have new(er) drivers
(if they are 
available for 2.4) as additions.  Sure that looses the
possibility to 
install IPCop on a box with only new cards but saves lots of
time and 
trouble.

There is plenty to do as is, and there are many cards out
there that are 
currently unsupported.
