Hi,

I want to ask how much time I need to to build a complete RTSP application from scratch? (Including learning of the topic & building the application). knowing that I am fresh graduate and have no experience about this topic at all.

thanx

You mean not using Helix?

Well, it all depends on what the scope of what you want to
do with RTSP
is. If you are looking at just writing a simple application
that can
connect to a RTSP server, do a few requests and get some
streamed data
from it without rendering or anything else, then maybe a few
months. It
depends on how fast you are at writing code.

If you are looking at a full featured playback app that can
do RTSP then
I would say you are looking at much longer.

If you are looking at using Helix, then a week or so. For
example, we
have python bindings ontop of Helix and using pygtk you can
write a
player that can do RTSP in just a few lines.

Thanks for your replay.

I have been working in a company since 5 monthes. From the first day, they asked me to do the application, in order to send streaming media (TV) to mobile phones. I am fast and excellent in programming, but very slow in reading (specially in network protocols).
I started with reading the related RFCs (RTSP, RTP, SDP). I build small application for one video file, but the packets are not played on realplayer.
Another packets for another RTSP applications are played on my realplayer.
Also, could u please explain to me how to determine if I should use helix or not?
I am not sure if I use the correct way, because no body around me have any idea about this topic.
