Hi!

I made new-stuff-manager deskbar independet and made an own
package.

I need some people to test it a little bit.

This version adds the NewStuff.GetTags Method and checks the
checksum of a
file if it is given in the XML file (no exception will be
raised at the
moment). Furthermore, I cleaned up the code and fixed some
bugs.

To run deskbar with NSM follow these steps:

1. Download http://www.k-d-w.org/clipboard/new-stuff-manager.tar.bz2
 and
install it
2. Get deskbar-applet from CVS
3. Get
http://www.k-d-w.org/clipboard/deskbar/de
skbar-applet-nsm-patch.tar.bz2
and extract it
4. Apply Patch: cd deskbar-applet && patch -p1 <
../deskbar-applet-nsm-patch/deskdeskbar-applet.patch
5. cp -R ../deskbar-applet-nsm-patch/updater/ deskbar
6. Install patched deskbar-applet
7. Check preferences dialog

In addition, new-stuff-manager ships with a small test
client located in
tests/DBusTester.py. The unit test doesn't work atm :(

API documentation is available at http://www.k-d
-w.org/clipboard/nsm-api
Unfortunatly, epydoc can't deal with decorators :(

So please test it and let me know what you think!

I created a git repository that contains new-stuff-manager
and the deskbar
patch:
http:/
/www.k-d-w.org/git/new-stuff-manager.git

An updated version is available there.

I hope you don't lose your drive from lack of feedback... I really mean to  give you some I'm just completely swamped!

I also noticed you appearing on desktop-devel, good move (I'm not subscribed I just scan it every now and then) .

Anyway. Keep up the spirit! Cheers,
Mikkel

I guess everybody is pretty busy right now.
Nevertheless, I got some reallyhelpful comments from
desktop-devel-list. I
keep you updated.
My current todo list:
- Validate GnuPG signed files
- Some changes to the XML file format
- Change spec format to an INI-like format

I'm checking it out now, looks pretty cool, sorry I don't
have much more
to say at the moment other than its working somewhat well
;). I would
think that some sort of GnuPG validation or similar would be
a pretty
big deal though, to confirm validity of whats about to be
installed. And
is there any other standard out there we could base the spec
format on?
I'm tentative to just create a standard like that,
especially since it
doesn't look like a lot of other files I see in gnome, just
my $0.02.

Otherwise, its pretty good, no serious bugs at the moment.

Both of your complains will be fixed in the next release.
