So it seems that all the ones I am finding that I don't want are the
global system engines. I suppose this is what you meant about
disabling them not working?

Yes. On my Ubuntu box the system engines are available in firefox by default. It's just that if I specifically disable fx. eBay in the ff2 prefs, it still shows up in deskbar. I've grepped through my entire system for refs on ebay/eBay, but nothing indicating that I had disabled it... So I don't know how to make deskbar pick that up.

I guess the next question is how Firefox stores which ones are enabled
or not... I'll take a look at the deskbar source to see if I can find
anything. (Yes, the Firefox source scares me, at least in theory. :P)

May the force be with you. Cheers,
Mikkel

Maybe you should ask on the Firefox mailing list.
