1. small LED under case (does not have to be visible after
putting cover)
which will show does device works at all:

- first start == LED on
- uboot start == LED off

As my (top/bottom caseless) Neo dropped to floor from 80 cm
and now I do
not know does it work but have discharged battery or does it
broke.

Device connected to Debug Board show reaction so it works.
Screen also
works.

2. A bit longer cable to GPS antenna so it will come from
AUX button side.
Now it block access to Debug Port.

3. Working GSM modem ;D Look at bug #256

Alternatively, the existing LEDs. (backlight).

After experiencing and reading about the problems with
charging
(http://bugzilla.openmoko.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/s
how_bug.cgi?id=212) I am
beginning to wonder if it would be a good idea to add a
charging LED at some
point. Most phones show some kind of indication when
charging, and a small
LED would mean you don't have the device in a running state
for it to show
the charging status and it only draws a small amount of
current. I'm not
convinced that using the backlight as an indication is the
right thing to do
in this case.

Obviously I realise "just adding a charging LED"
is not an easy task at this
point but I think it's worth considering for the future.

Cheers,
Paul

Something that might be easier would be a led in series with
one of the
power terminals on the charger plug. It will only light
when power is
flowing so you know that you have it connected correctly.
Plus, this
can be added even in the current generation as it does not
require a mod
to the phone at all.

Once we get 500 mA, it should be safe to switch on LCM and
backlight
and display something nice, before going into standby.
Similar for
"charge complete".

This lacks a the simple elegance of a LED, but it could be
done without
spilling too much blood

(Disclaimer: I haven't actually measured how much excess
current we
have. So there may still be obstacles.)

I left my neo for 9h connected to USB wall charger (similar
to the one in
package but this has europlug). It still does not want to
boot.

I'm more and more thinking about buying Nokia DT-14
(external charger for
BL-5C) to be able to charge batteries for Neo1973.

Nokia 770 boots without problem with this battery, show
lowest possible
level but works. It also refuse to charge it.

42? 7 and a half million years and all you can come up
with is 42?!

The Neo needs at least 2.7V for the power supplies to work.

Seems that Nokia gets away with a little less.

Good, at least it doesn't show "almost full". That
would be
embarrassing

Perhaps it doesn't like our temperature sensor (the middle
contact).

My crystal ball tells me that you have a debug board. So you
could
try the reset approach: connect debug board, insert battery,
connect
charger, then put something heavy but non-metallic on the
reset
button on the debug board. That will keep your Neo in reset,
and
should allow your phone to recharge (slowly).

After that, you could try my early power-down hack, see:
http://bugzilla.openmoko.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/s
how_bug.cgi?id=212

According to my multimeter battery has 3.38V. But I cannot
be sure that
this 10 years old device still works reliable.

Nokia770 with digital camera on it is on reset now.
