Well, we've run Diablo a little bit on 6.*/AMD64. The
problems we were
noticing were different. We've currently got a reader box
on 6.*/AMD64
and with a modest amount of work, it is working pretty well,
with some
significant caveats.
Large MTU support seems to be busted. This is significant
for environments
where you're trying to move around massive quantities of
data with a small
number of TCP streams.
We make extensive use of IPFW. We've also noticed that the
IP networking
is fragile as all hell (as in, running "ping" can
panic the box). We're
not sure that this is related to the IPFW stuff we're doing,
or if it is
related to other network tuning, or if it is just 6.2R.
A variety of other things (I'm missing my notes) will also
panic the box,
usually stuff that would be
rock-solid-incomprehensible-that-it-would-cause-
a-panic-under-4.*.
There are some improvements as well, mostly related to
AMD64.
Quite frankly, though, we've not been inspired to commit to
6.* (or 5.*)
just yet.
What exactly are you doing with the machine (what is its
role)?
