Because if you use sprites in a 3D engine or 3D models in a
2D engine you'll get a horrible
framerate.
Besides that, the world already have Adobe Flash and
Director Shockwave.
There is no place for the 3rd one ...

cheers

Aha, is this the case? And i always thought that sprites in
a
meaningful 2d/3d engine just would be implemented like
simple texture
planes.

Of course.
Now try to animate those "texture planes" and
you'll get the picture.
Using copyPixels ???

Hahaha...better now?

About what kind of animation are you talking about?

A simple single step frame animation where the different
animationphases are held inside a texture and addressed
thorugh a
parameter which tells which frame to choose?

Or are you talking about some RenderToTexture or shader
animations?
