A thought that's been preoccupying me for a week or so...
am interested in
other peoples opinions.
I would like to see Director to become the
'Champion-of-the-Indie-Game-Developer' as a low cost
professional game
development platform.
To do this I reckon Director has the opportunity to become a
game developer
platform of choice for
- mobile phones : dust off the Export-To-Java Xtra (&
rewrite?)
- pocketPC : chat with Mr Sharp about using his Xtra
(& extend?).
- XBox360 platform : playback engine + an updated
Shockwave3D
- Windows : Done.
- Apple : Done.
The proviso with this is, of course, is different platforms
have different
limitations. Eg I don't se PPC having 3D in a hurry. Also
xtras are an
issue but a lot can be achieved with core funcionality of
Director. But
keep it simple & take advantage of what each platform
does best.
I realise Director is really the platform of choice for many
indie games
devels already but how cool to be author once and deploy
manywhere. This
represents an opportunity to slice the salami very thinly
and get a great
return for development effort.
With games leading the technology charge, this allows other
developers eg
eLearning, Kiosks etc to follow & stick with Director.
Might it also
encourage new growth in the Director Developer community?
My US$0.0154,
Tom
