Would you be able to to test with source samples in different formats?
e.g. 44khz, 8bit, mono OR 22khz 16bit, mono OR 22khz 8bit, mono
You never know, it could be an issue with the amount of sound data
Director has to process and if this is the case lowering the file
quality might help.

When i was trying to debug my sw3d+audio crash I tried all formats and
several file types to ensure the orignal sound members weren't corrupt of
something. Crash still happened reagardless.
