Well if you have 2 to 3 servers for a system then you are
making money.

So the cost is not really an issue with Nebula or Smart Fox
Server.

But if you want to use flash or Director then Smart Fox
Server is a better option. It is more flexible in that way.

The Flash Media Server however charges for bandwidth as well
as users. Now that is pretty evil. And that cost is tooo
great.

After looking at the pricing page, here's the actual
breakdown:

20 connections - Free
100 connections - $647
500 connections - $1,295
Unlimited connections - $2,590

So the Smart Fox server does support unlimited connections
but the
equivalent license cost 5 times as much as the Nebuale
Server ($500). Smart
Fox does look more user friendly and it seems to be utilized
in quite a few
commercial applications, which is good. But the unlimited
connections
license is not too far off from the cost of the Flash Comm
server (which is
expensive). If I needed to have 2-3 servers to run the game
I'd have to
spend almost $8,000 in license fees. If you're doing more
than a avatar
chat, the Smart Fox server gets really expensive.

Still, it's nice to see another viable option for MUS.
Thanks for sharing.

Does the Smart Fox Server use a messaging model like the
SMUS or a shared
object model like Flash Com? I guess I'm trying to figure
out the time to
port for a current SMUS based game. The Flooding filter
with
autokick/autoban functions stand out for me.

Any of the Jabber servers support a flooding filter? (One
thing I like about
the Jaber implementation is that it uses the MU Xtra rather
than Flash.)

I found this....

any other links?
