Hi Bart,
I can reccomend you to look at the SmartFoxServer which I'm
considering to switch to now.
The server can be extended using Java, JavaScript, Python
and ActionScript.
http://www.smartfoxserv
er.com
There is the Nebulae server which is cheaper and mimics the
SMUS.
The server can be extended using Java.
http://xtras.tabuleiro.com
There is the FlashComm server, by Adobe, which has a steep
price. It will require you to use flash.
There is the option of using an IRC server or any server
that supports a regular text socket.
It all depends what you want to accomplish, how you wish to
extend it, what your wallet allows, and how many users you
need to
serve.
Regards
Elia
