I have had intermittent issues with the entire macromedia
domain for a
few months. So abd that I've had to ask friends from
outside my area
to download updates for me.
I tracked the problem down to one of the routers connecting
to
Macromedia at either their bandwidth or hosting provider.
Doing a
tracert always ended up with a drop in traffic at one
particular hop.
I'd suggest doing a tracert and seeing if you're ahving
teh same
issue.
I tried to contact their web services people with no luck.

Have someone tried contacting Tom Higgins with this info?
Shockwave player download simply must work for those relying
on it to
deploy apps/games/whatever. With many users, one attempt is
all you
get...
Cheers,
Dan

Yes I did report it more than a week ago.
Tom Higgins wasn't in the office until yesterday. But I
think he is
aware of the issue since yesterday, as we were discussing
the topic
on another list, which he has on his radar.
Nonetheless it may be a good idea to complain on as much as
possible
places until madobe (nice how many different names fitting
different
emotions you can build from both names wakes
up.

we do not seem to be very much silly people relying on
shockwave
anymore...
:-(
the behavior of macromedia over the last 8 years does imply,
that
they are not very much interested, that we use director for
online
delivery. while this is a pity from my POV, I must realize,
that they
do not seem to want to listen to the needs of their
customers in this
regard.
My guess is, that fpdownload may translate into
ForeignPlayerDownload, as the problem seems to occurr only
to those
coming from non-US locations.

Excellent! Out of pure curiousity, which list might that be?
Wouldn't
want to be missing interesting stuff.

not a public one.
but I posted it on direct-l, which is on Tom's radar as
well.
as well as this one of course.
But he can't be everywhere, especially, when he was two
weeks away on
his well deserved vacancies.
