Well, for the record I too think that games development is a
growth area
that we ought to focus on with Director and Shockwave. Only
time will
tell if Adobe and I are on the same page on that front...

Well, that sure is great to read. Did you guys sneak some
game-
oriented features in Director 11? (not asking for actual
features,
but a little nod would make a great christmas present ;¬)

thanks,

Obviously I cannot provide feature specifics but the goal is
to focus our efforts on what we hope to have as our core
businesses going forward. Along with games development
(which includes "simulations" for the
training/education set too) we are looking to focus on a few
other core areas (app development and to serve as a proper
Flash wrapping technology to name the other 2 biggies) so
features/bug fixes will be decided upon that hopefully
address all of those development types.

though I'm primarily a lurker on this list, could I chime in
for an
upgrade to Shockwave 3D?

What's this "3D" feature you folks are always
talking about?

Yes, you may.

May be it's the new versioning scheme after the merger.
once we had good ol' numbers to distinguish software
versions, then
there was this MX or CS crap and now they return halfway
with a
mixture of numbers and meaningless chars => 3D
funny enough it is incidentally also used for the term
"third
dimension", but we all know, that nobody needs 3-D in
director and it
is simply too much effort for too little use...

Tom,

I know I've flogged this horse before, but I would like to
chime in and ask
for a sprite-like 2D API for SW3D planes, or overlays if you
like. Seems to
me that Director could become a strong contender in casual
download games
with this; after all, this is what most of the download
competition trades
on (witness the PopCap SDK, etc.) 'Nuff said.
