better pull the power cord and wait 30 seconds or so before
reconnecting, 
just to make sure.

Didn't work.  Log file said the same thing.  I've been
looking for a
hard reset to factory default, but thus far I've found
nothing.

I'm also going to try reinstalling the sane backend.
