Hello,
after many months of tests I just discovered that the
Epson FilmScan 200
hangs if the first command that is sent is a reset (doh!).
Resolving this issue enabled me going further in the
development
of the epson2 backend.
I've started the development from the epson backend and
restructured
it in order to better support different scanners on
different transport
layers, like tcp/ip.
My plans are to fully support the FilmScan 200, including
the
Advanced Photo System loader, and other epson scanners.
I will be able to test on Epson CX11NF and GT-7000 photo
any I'm searching for interested people that can both
help in development and/or test with other epson devices.
I'm particularly interested in scanners equipped
with ADF and/or backlight units.
Hardware donations will be appreciated
Furthermore, my backend will be one day able to support
tcp/ip communications with the CX11NF. I'm currently
able to detect and setup the scanner properties and
still have to write the actual scanning routines.

I've got Perfection 2580 Photo. The thing that doesn't work
now is automatic
film transporter.
I'd be glad to help you in testing new backend.

Sorry but that will not work. The Perfection 2580 PHOTO and
FilmScan
200 use different protocols.
The reason that the epkowa backend can support this model is
because
it allows the use of the non-free binary-only plugin that
converts
between the protocols.
Hope this helps,

d'oh! one less tester for me!
thanks anyway for your offer, Jeroslaw.

Olaf, saying 'this' You mean FilmScan 200 or Perfection 2580
Photo?

AFAIK Perfection 2580 Photo works with epkowa and snapscan
backends. But
neither of them supports transparency unit.

Sorry for not being clear.
I meant to refer to the Perfection 2580 PHOTO.

binary-only plugin that

True, the 2580 can be used with the snapscan backend as
well. The
epkowa backend should let you select the transparency unit
(TPU),
IIRC. However, the automatic film loader (AFL) is *not*
supported.
You will have to move the transparencies by hand yourself
:-(
Hope this helps,

Unfortunately, it is impossible. AFL does not allow to move
the film by hand.
When I try, film slips into the scanner on about 5-7 mm, and
then refuses to
go deeper.
Getting know SANE to be able to develop support for AFL on
that device is on
my TODO list for at least two years. Unfortunatelly there's
always "more
important thing to do" :(
