New scanner, how to get started

Hi,

i just received this new Plustek 2420 for birthday. Of
course my
parents did not
check its Linux compatibility.
Now, I'd really like to make it work under Linux.
Since the 2400 is supported I assume it might be not too
difficult to
achieve and be a nice newbie project.
So, do you have any suggestion where to get started?
What USB tools do I need?
How do you guys start when you get a new device and try to
make it work?
