What I'm currently looking for is simple open-source
software, perhaps a
java applet, that would make it very easy for teams of
volunteer
annotators to listen to snippets of audio (or view video)
and do
transcription.
For some reason I'm having trouble located such software
with google.
I have been encountering info about SMIL and CMML, and they
seem like
overkill for what I'm interested in, but could certainly be
involved.
Assuming the existence of a transcription applet, my
difficulty will be
in coding the workflow: breaking the audio into chunks and
coordinating
the error-checking and stitching-together of the resulting
transcription
chunks.
My various grassroots organizations are always in need of
transcribing
speeches or documents that are available only in print (the
latter could
be handled by a similar workflow, once scanned); it just
seems like a
useful app.
Thanks,
Kevin Murphy
