Hi,

Are we right in thinking that having apps scaled across multiple boxes of the following spec is the best way to go for running video conferencing services based on openh323?

Linux (debian)

2 *  Xeon 3.2 GHz Processors with 2Mb Cache 800 MHz FSB

4G Ram

Load balancing managed by http requests to a central login server (rather than dynamically changing endpoint addresses with a gatekeeper)

Thanks

Ben

Hi,
one other thing you should consider is the cpu and
bandwidth.

I think your xeon chips are dual core, but they are a poor
dual core.
You see, there is only one memory manager, and if both cores
are doing
high volume memory work, the total throughput is similar to
to just one
core....

Derek.

I see, can you recommend a CPU please?

Out of interest Derek, who would you order a cluster of
servers from?

Thanks

Ben

Ben,
I am currently using on my development box a
 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+
which is doing well, and goes nicely in parallel.

Sorry, I cannot suggest what cpu to get - it is one of those
things you
will have to read the docs on.

Derek.
