Using the fgrep that comes with Zeus I found your regexp
also
did not work.

But changing the expression to this did work:

   $[0-9]+.[0-9][0-9]

I suspect your fgrep utility is similar to the Zeus fgrep
utility in
that it does not handle regular expressions grouping or the
zero
or one ? operator commands.
