Hello.

I'm having trouble finding a compact flash wired Ethernet
adapter for
my Zaurus. I can't seem to find any retailers that have
stock of any
of the models listed on the OpenBSD/zaurus page. I have even
searched
eBay, but to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions for
where to
look to find one of the supported cards, or does anyone have
one spare
they would be willing to sell to me? Thank you very much in
advance
for your help.

- Matt

Yeah, it's called Amazon.com

Zaurus accessories are specialty items - I'd never expect to
find them
at any retail store. There's over a dozen online stores that
sell
these types of products. Just Google what you need.

Conics.net has a good selection.

There are no listings at Amazon for any of the *wired*
Ethernet CF
cards supported by OpenBSD/zaurus that I saw. As I stated,
every store
(I meant online retailers... not like Best Buy and whatnot
;) I've
checked that even lists any of the supported cards is out of
stock in
them. The *wireless* (802.11) CF cards supported by
OpenBSD/zaurus are
commonly available, but this does not seem to be the case
with the
wired Ethernet cards.

Thanks for the tip. Their price for a used 10 Mb/s Buffalo
card (the
only wired Ethernet card they list) seems pretty high,
though. :(

Thanks, I searched and found a low power version that's only
10 Mb/s,
and two 10/100 versions, one rugged and one non-rugged, by
Socket. Do
you think the 10/100 non-rugged version would work? It looks
like it's
listed in ne(4), but it's not listed on the OpenBSD/zaurus
page, and
Socket's web site says the rugged version isn't NE2000
compatible
(although I guess maybe they're pointing that out because
the
non-rugged version was compatible). I see the low power
version is
listed in ne(4) but not on the OpenBSD/zaurus page too. Do
you think
maybe the Socket devices were just accidentally left off
the
OpenBSD/zaurus hardware list?

Quite likely. Probably the rugged one too (it looks like
it's
ASIX AX88790 which was added in 4.1).

I'd just buy one and try it, if it's no good then either
sell it
again, or offer it to a driver developer.

You won't get anywhere near 100Mb/s on 16-bit PCMCIA (which
is
basically what the CF is), 10Mb should be ok (make sure it's
full
duplex though) unless it's a requirement to be able to
connect
to 100Mb-only switch ports.
