Reading about Gstreamer it seems lots of plugins have been
written to stream video/audio data in various formats.



 



Can Gstreamer be used to capture data from peripherals like
microphone and video camera.



 



If so is there any Gstreamer plugin available to capture
audio/video or both data?



 



Any information in this regard will be highly helpful.

    For video you can use the video4linux plugins, (v4l2src and v4lsrc), which can capture images from webcams (for instance).
like:

gst-launch v4l2src device=/dev/video0 !  xvimagesink

Hi Natarajan,
There is a long list of audio and video capture plugins.
There is
alsasrc for capturing audio from alsa. osssrc for capturing
sound from
OSS, there is sunaudiosrc for capturing sound on a Solaris
system.

For video there is v4lsrc and v4l2src for capturing video
from v4l
devices. There is a dvbsrc for capturing sound and audio
from a DVB
card, there is a firewire plugin to capture DV from a
Firewire DV
camera.
