Hi Larry,

Ah, so I should always expect MARC records with the MARC21
search 
regardless of the element name setting.  I'll check a number
of 
different libraries, then, and experiment some more.

Yes.  If you want XML records, use:
  ZOOM_connection_option_set(mZoomConnection,
"preferredRecordSyntax", "xml")

Selection of record _syntax_ (MARC, XML, SUTRS, etc.) is
orthogonal(*)
to selection of record _subset_, which is that element-set
name such
as "F" (full) and "B" (brief) is for.
